Calling on the UK Government to protect food standards

I was pleased to sign this cross-party letter to Liz Truss (International Trade) and George Eustice (Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) asking the government to clarify its commitment to protecting UK food standards in light of future trade deals.

East Lothian is rightly famed for it’s fertile land and high quality produce, with farms across the county, and several local food and drink producers, including the renowned Glenkinchie Distillery.

Our current food standards, established as part of the European Union, are among the highest in the world, and any dodgy trade deal that threatens those standards will directly threaten the producers of East Lothian.

The Government must confirm that they have no plans to degrade those standards for the chance at a quick trade deal.
