Comment: East Lothian placed in Tier 3 of new Scottish Government System

The Scottish Government announced this morning that East Lothian would be placed in Tier 3 of the new tiered Coronavirus response strategy.

As I said in the East Lothian Courier this morning, I had hoped that East Lothian would be put into Tier 2: “As soon as you move to local authority areas as the basis for a decision then maintaining the county in Tier 3 becomes harder to justify.”

I will be making representations to the Scottish Government to get some clarity over the decision that was made, and to see what progress can be made ahead of a review in the coming week. The impact on individuals and the economy is hitting hard, so I am very keen to ensure that East Lothian is moved out of Tier 3 as soon as the science suggests it is safe to do so. I am relieved that this decision will be reviewed on a weekly basis, and I hope that progress can be made quickly. I want to thank the people of East Lothian for their continued patience and for continuing to follow the guidance that is there for all our safety.
