Many constituents have written to me this afternoon expressing anger following the press conference where the Prime Minister defended the irresponsible actions of his advisor Dominic Cummings.
I share their concerns and anger.
For the Prime Minister to suggest that parents who complied with the lockdown rules were not caring enough, or that traveling huge distances across the country somehow complies with the ‘stay at home’ message shows how lamentable the UK strategy to tackle coronavirus has been.
It undermines clear messages and confirms that this is a government that is self-serving, arrogant, and ignores the needs of the overwhelming majority of people on both sides of the border.
Along with colleagues, I will continue to seek his removal and demand that the Government prioritise the common good not indulge the private wants of a powerful few.
The advice in Scotland remains as it was – the best thing to do just now, until the science says otherwise, is to stay at home, to protect the NHS and save lives.
