Supporting the Wellbeing of Future Generations Bill

It was a pleasure to speak with young activists today in support of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Bill.

These young people were ambassadors for the Bill, headed by Big Issue founder Lord Bird and Green MP Caroline Lucas, which is currently making its way through the House of Commons.

I have also co-signed a letter to the UK Government calling on them to act in this area. We must learn from the Pandemic and make sure that we have a plan in place to safeguard the wellbeing of those that will come after us, especially as the response to climate change continues to become and ever more existential threat.

From the letter: ‘A Future Generations Bill provides an opportunity to tackle these significant threats pre-emptively, as well as providing more cost-effective solutions to long-standing issues from climate change to poverty. Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we learn from the pandemic and ensure preventive tools and frameworks are put in place to protect the UK from emerging future threats.’”

My thanks to the young people who participated in the meeting today for their passion and dedication to this issue, and for challenging us all as MPs to think proactively about the future.
